The Boys & Girls Club of Worcester has launched a new program - an evidence-based new music program in collaboration with Pakachoag Music School, and WAMS is helping. Elementary school age children are in Rhythm Kids, a program of drumming, music, and movement to prepare children for more formal music study later. It’s a great introduction and tremendous fun. WAMS is recruiting volunteer mentors for this program and also for a teen music program that will let young people create music on keyboards. Rhythm Kids is offered from 3 to 4 pm on Tuesdays, and when there are enough mentors, a second group will start at 4 pm. The new teen program is being organized for Wednesday afternoons. Professional music teachers lead the classes, so volunteers don’t need any music training – just an interest in working with kids and having fun. The Boys & Girls Club conducts background checks on all volunteers. Anyone interested should contact Jay Zayas, the WAMS Director of Programs – jzayas [at] wamsworks.org. There will never be an easier, or more joyous, volunteer opportunity.
